Rhonda Vincent & The Rage

Rhonda Vincent grew up in Northern Missouri in the tiny town of Greentop as the 5th generation of the musical Vincent Family. She began her broadcasting experience at age 3, performing on her family’s local TV & Radio Shows as The Sally Mountain Show. Her new Gospel music project, Sunday Mornin’ Singin’, brings Rhonda Vincent full circle – transcending her musical way of life into a successful career, and the coronation as the NEW Queen of Bluegrass, as proclaimed by the WALL STREET JOURNAL. She’s an artist at the Top of her Game with multiple Grammy nominations, 5 consecutive Entertainer of the Year Awards from the Society for the Preservation of Bluegrass Music of America, and an unprecedented 7 consecutive Female Vocalist of the Year Awards from the International Bluegrass Music Association. And when you add up the lifetime of accolades bestowed upon Rhonda and her band The Rage; they emerge as the Most Awarded Band in Bluegrass Music, with over 80 awards!
Just as Rhonda and her family opened their voices to sing in church; Rhonda and her band The Rage share their incredible talents with a sincere love of the Lord, giving witness through their music and songs. You’ll find hymnal favorites such as The Old Rugged Cross and Just As I Am along-side newly penned songs like Blue Sky Cathedral, Silent Partner, and Help Me To Be More Like Him. While featured guests join in on the DVD, the CD features only Rhonda and the Rage.
A highlight of both projects is an A cappella song titled His Promised Land written by Rhonda Vincent & Nashville songster Lisa Shaffer. Ironically, Rhonda began writing this modern day Amazing Grace several years ago while visiting Las Vegas. The lively spiritual God Put A Rainbow In The Clouds was specially arranged to feature Rhonda along with stand out vocal parts by each member of The Rage.
This award winning group utilizes every ounce of talent and versatility; to produce a project of modern Christian music along with high energy performances of Traditional Bluegrass Gospel Music. You will discover there’s something for everyone, as you enjoy the simplistic styles to the sophisticated arrangements.
You can feel the honest integrity within the beauty of Rhonda’s angelic voice. Her vocal clarity is unique, unmatched and instantly recognizable. The All American Bluegrass Girl lives the life she sings about. Her loyalty displayed through her 28 year marriage; and 10 year sponsorship with Martha White, which allowed her the distinct honor of traveling in the historical Martha White Bluegrass Express. An honor she deeply appreciates, along with the many blessings God has granted upon her life.

The Larry Stephenson Band

Highly regarded as one of Bluegrass Music’s finest High Lead and Tenor vocalist, Larry Stephenson has been a headliner for over twenty years. Larry formed his band in 1989 while living in his home state of Virginia. Stephenson has been a touring bluegrass musician since he played with his Dad beginning in the middle seventies. Born in Harrisonburg, VA and raised in King George, his Dad started him on the mandolin at age five, cutting his first record at age 13. He credits the rich music scene of Virginia for much of his musical success, having seen and heard the first generation bluegrass performers at festivals, shows, and on the radio. After high school graduation, he worked and recorded with Cliff Waldron and Leon Morris while soaking up the Washington, D.C. rich musical scene, which included cutting edge bands like The Country Gentlemen and The Seldom Scene as well as traditional bluegrass and old-time music. Moving onward in 1979 Larry spent 4 ½ years with Bill Harrell & The Virginians. And in 1983 joined the famed Bluegrass Cardinals for 5 ½ years. This combination has been called “…one of the classic lineups of the Bluegrass Cardinals”. Recording with both groups.
In 1992 Larry moved to Nashville, Tennessee and since then, The Larry Stephenson Band has toured widely, recorded frequently, nurturing it’s own sound, based on Larry’s crystal clear, easily recognizable tenor voice, while providing a musical home for some of the finest sidemen in contemporary bluegrass history. Many appearance’s on the Grand Ole Opry and RFD TV have made The Larry Stephenson Band a fan favorite all across the US and Canada. In 1996, Stephenson was made a member of the Virginia Country Music Hall of Fame by the Virginia Folk Music Association.
While Larry Stephenson is best known as a touring musician whose voice sets a standard of melody, clarity, and storytelling, he has had an active and well-awarded recording career. He recorded with Webco Records and then spent eighteen years with Pinecastle Records, releasing eighteen CD’s during that period. Signature songs in Larry Stephenson’s vast catalog include “Patches,” “Yes, I See God,” “Clinch Mountain Mystery,” “Many Hills Of Time”, “The Knoxville Girl”, “The Knoxville Boy,” The Pretty Blue Dress” and “The Violet and the Rose.” Another Stephenson fan favorite is his version of Bill Monroe’s classic “Mule Skinner Blues,” often performed as an encore and showcasing his flexible and reliable tenor voice. These songs, always delivered with commitment and conviction are often requested in his live performances at festivals, concerts, and other appearances.
While many other Stephenson’s songs from most of his recordings have charted, 2004 brought a hi-light as “Clinch Mountain Mystery” reached #1 on the bluegrass charts. This veteran performer continues to deliver new and fresh material while never straying far from his deep traditional roots. Throughout his now over twenty-year career fronting his own band, and almost forty years as a major, touring performer, Larry Stephenson has been well-recognized and awarded by fans and his peers in the recording industry. He’s been named Male Vocalist of the Year at SPBGMA (The Society for the Preservation of Bluegrass Music in America) five times. His 2010 award winning release “20th Anniversary” on his own label Whysper Dream Music, included guest performers like Ricky Skaggs, Connie Smith, Marty Stuart, Del McCoury, Dale Ann Bradley, Dudley Connell, and Sonny Osborne.”Give This Message to Your Heart” with Dailey and Vincent won Recorded Event of the Year from IBMA (International Bluegrass Music Association) in the same year. In 2011, he signed a recording contract with Nashville based, premier label Compass Records.

Blue Highway

At the 17-year mark, Blue Highway is indisputably one of the most esteemed and influential groups in contemporary bluegrass. The band’s nine exceptional albums and compelling live performances give proof to the stellar reviews, Grammy nominations, and numerous awards earned by the band since it first took the stage on December 31, 1994, with the same musicians that comprise Blue Highway today.
With a deep bench of virtuosic songwriters, vocalists and instrumentalists, Blue Highway’s hallmark is an unwavering commitment to the ensemble, the “democracy of the band” that makes Blue Highway a powerhouse.
Individually, Jason Burleson (banjo, guitar, mandolin), Rob Ickes (Dobro), Shawn Lane (mandolin, fiddle, vocals), Tim Stafford (guitar, vocals), and Wayne Taylor (bass, vocals) are masters of their respective roles. Together, in Stafford’s words, they are “a democracy in the best sense of the word”: five gifted artists selflessly merging their talents into a seamlessly brilliant group sound. As a result, the band moves from strength to strength, more mature and impressive with each new album.
Blue Highway has five gifted writers in its ranks. Rob and Jason turn out the heart-pounding instrumentals, while Shawn, Tim and Wayne give Blue Highway a depth of songwriting talent unprecedented in sixty years of bluegrass bands.
With ten highly-acclaimed albums to its credit, Blue Highway has garnered two Grammy nominations, a Dove Award, topped the Bluegrass Unlimited radio charts, and won numerous International Bluegrass Music Association awards. Refusing to coast on past glories, Blue Highway continues to push its music to new levels of accomplishment. Artfully balanced between tradition and innovation, it remains in the forefront of contemporary bluegrass music. – Courtesy of www.bluehighwayband.com

Jr Sisk & Ramblers Choice
